Galapagos Part 6 | Optimization

Now we can run our analysis with Galapagos. To do that, place the Galapagos component.

What's unique about this component is that the wires will be connected backwards. What I mean is that you have to connect wires from the Galapagos component to other components even though it is an input into the Galapagos component. Connect fitness to the value from out Ladybug analysis, the result of our mass addition. Connect Genome to the Gene Pool, which controls the position of the openings.

Then to run the simulation double click on the component. Set fitness to minimize and do not enable a run time limit. Use the evolutionary solver and these are the settings: 50 50 to 575. Then click okay for the settings to save. Now when we open the component, we can see our setting saved so you can make adjustments to your scripts after adjusting the settings. To start the solver, click the solver tab and select ‘start solver’. Now we can see that the solver has generated 46 generations. Select the top gene. To see the option with these settings in Rhino, we can click the reinstate button. This updates the slider values to match those of this gene. You can also look at past genes to understand options that are more or less optimized.
